Jeffrey King

Jeff King is a Patent Attorney at NovoTech Patent Firm and is based in the Firm’s San Diego office. Jeff assists clients with patent prosecution, patent counseling, reexamination, and opinion work.

Jeff has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in the computer, electrical, and mechanical arts including machine learning and artificial intelligence for autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicle navigation systems and for remote sensing and diagnostic systems, mobile devices, satellite communication systems, Internet of Things devices, image processing systems, medical devices, hardware and software security (e.g., threat detection and mitigation), and hardware and software for data centers and high-volume distributed data storage systems. Jeff has also been involved in patent reexaminations for patent owners, due diligence to assess patent portfolios prior to purchase or licensing, and litigation to assist clients in asserting their patents against infringers.

Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Jeff was a software engineer for nearly a decade working for several technology startup companies as well as several large and mid-sized corporations. He developed software in the C, C++, and Java programming languages for high-volume, low latency transactional systems for the mobile phone, insurance, defense, and medical industries. Jeff has extensive experience designing and managing the design of software and relational databases to support such transactional systems.

Jeff is admitted to practice in California and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

About the Author

Babak Akhlaghi is a registered patent attorney and the Managing Director at NovoTech Patent Firm, where he assists inventors in protecting and monetizing their inventions. He is also a co-author of the "Patent Applications Handbook," which has been updated and published annually by West Publications (Clark Boardman Division) since 1992. Additionally, Babak is a former adjunct faculty member at the University of Maryland, where he taught legal aspects of entrepreneurship. One of his notable achievements includes successfully prosecuting a patent application for a startup, resulting in licensing fees totalling over a hundred million dollars.
