Ann Peng

Ann Peng, Ph.D. is a Patent Agent at NovoTech Patent Firm. Based in Florida, Ann is a highly experienced patent practitioner and former research scientist with deep expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), computer vision, and autonomous-technology applications, which she applies to strategic patent preparation and prosecution. 

Patent Law Experience 

Ann brings extensive experience from both law-firm and in-house roles, including positions at Sheppard Mullin, Kilpatrick Townsend, and PlusAI Inc. She has drafted and prosecuted U.S. and international patent applications across software, AI/ML, computer vision, and cryptography, working closely with major technology clients to develop and execute effective claim strategies. At PlusAI, she directed patent strategy for autonomous-driving and AI innovations, oversaw a rapidly expanding portfolio, managed foreign filings, led continuation and divisional practice, and aligned IP development with engineering and product teams. Across her roles, she has collaborated with inventors, R&D teams, and outside counsel to build strong, strategically focused patent portfolios. 

Education and Technical Experience 

Ann holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science, as well as a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Before entering the patent field, she worked as a research scientist and software engineer at multiple Silicon Valley companies, providing a strong practical foundation in software development and innovation.

Babak is also a permanent Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland, where he teaches Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship, bringing real‑world IP strategy experience directly into the academic environment.

He is a co‑author of the Patent Applications Handbook, published annually by West Publications (Clark Boardman Division) since 1992, and widely used by practitioners as a technical and procedural reference.
