USPTO Launches CI2 First-Time Filer Expedited Examination Pilot Program

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has introduced a new initiative called the Council for Inclusive Innovation (CI2) First-Time Filer Expedited Examination Pilot Program. The program aims to promote innovation across communities in America by providing expedited initial feedback on patent applications filed by individuals or small businesses that qualify as “micro-entities.” This includes groups that are underrepresented in the innovation space.

Under this program, first-time filers can receive prompt feedback from the agency on their application, also known as “first office action.” The initiative is expected to benefit micro-entities and encourage more innovation in diverse communities throughout the United States.
